Transcript Digest takes a public YouTube link, reads the captions the video already carries, and returns three things: a short overview of what the video is about, the takeaways worth remembering, and the points worth arguing with. You can then shorten or extend that summary, read it in Sinhala, have it read aloud, or copy it somewhere else.
Why it exists
A great deal of what is worth knowing is now locked inside hour-long talks, interviews and lectures. Most of them are worth about four minutes of your attention. This site exists to find out which four minutes, before you commit the hour — and to make long-form video usable for people who would rather read, who are on a slow connection, or who are more comfortable in Sinhala than in English.
How it works
- You paste a link. The site never downloads or re-hosts the video.
- Google’s Gemini model reads the captions published with that video and writes the summary. Nothing is scraped and nothing is stored.
- The result is rendered in your browser. Reload the page and it is gone.
The summary is a machine’s reading of a transcript. It is usually good and it is occasionally confidently wrong, so treat it as a map rather than the territory — see the terms.
Who runs it
